The problem of moral progress in the philosophical conception of N.V.Shelgunov
The paper analyzes an actual problem of Russian philosophy of the second half of the XIX century - the problem of the social progress. This problem is also central in the philosophical heritage of N.V.Shelgunov. His materialistic views helped him to create a definite system in which the social progress was considered as a result of two interconnected processes: the economic development and the level of education and culture of the society.

Upbringing and education as factors of social progress in the concept of N.G.Shelgunov
In the paper the author analyses the philosophical and pedagogical heritage of N.G.Shelgunov. The importance of the problem of the Russian education, developing of alternatives to the official doctrine of Russian autocracy has been considered, the personal contribution of Shelgunov in the solution of the problem of upbringing and education in Russia in the second half of the nineteenth century has been underlined.

The philosophical grounds of the idea of progress in the social conception of N.V. Shelgunov
The paper considers the idea of progress which has become a new paradigm of the Russian philosophical ideas of the second half of the XIX century. The work of N.V. Shelgunov has been analyzed in the context of the philosophical grounds of the idea of progress as a complex integrated process. The scientific validity of the Shelgunov's conception has been underlined by precise substantiation of the progress structure and criteria, motive forces and antinomic character of the progress.

Personality as a dominating factor of social progress in the conception of N.V. Shelgunov
The author considers Heidegger's interpretation of works "Being and time", "Kant and the problem of metaphysics" and "About essence of truth". Analyzing philosophical works of Heidegger the author has revealed the concept "metaphysics" and categories of "Dasein" and "existing".

On conception of progress in heritage of European philosophers of Antiquity and Middle Ages
The problem of progress is very actual nowadays. The author analyses weakly studied resources of ancient and medieval thinkers in order to investigate backgrounds of the idea of progress. The special attention has been paid to defining criteria of progress undertaken by ancient philosophers.
